Cassandra Coleman walked into the American Idol audition ready to put her fears and insecurities aside and pursue her life-long dream of singing and performing, and boy...did she deliver! According to Lionel Richie, Cassandra’s performance was as “angelic as it’s gonna get.” Luke Bryan tells Cassandra she’s “a new voice the world has never heard before.” Lionel wants Cassandra to remember this one thing: Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. I keep coming back to Cassie’s audition - so looking forward to her journey on the show. It was perfect as an intro to the Idol audience in so many ways. The fluttery vibrato (which reminds me of Ben Platt’s), the quick downward runs, the gentle, yodel-y growls, and the purity of the chest tone. She ‘had’ me completely when she altered the notes on ‘when WE met’ in the chorus. Love the cutaway to Luke rolling up his sleeves. The only thing I ‘didn’t like’ all was the apparent cut before ‘Dar-lin’’ - probably just to save time. Didn’t want it to end. Would love to hear this reprised over the course of the show, without much more instrumentation. Cassie rave over, for now. There is some solid talent so far this season!

Luke Bryan mentioned Edie Brickell in comparison to Cassandra. Perhaps I've not heard enough of Edie to qualify as knowledgeable in this matter, but from what I remember regarding Edie Brickell, I don't see any strong similarities in vocal style. Am I wrong?
